The scholarship is for a recent postgraduate photography student, who lives in the North West, to produce a series of photographs based on images in the Humphrey Spender Worktown archive at Bolton Museum and Art Gallery. The theme for the 2009 – 10 scholarship is ‘holidays’.

The final set of photographs will be displayed in an exhibition at Bolton Museum and Art Gallery in 2010 and the photographer will also deliver a paper at the third Photography and Leisure Conference to be held early in 2010.

Second Call 2009

The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET) `EMBARK` Scheme offers opportunities for suitably qualified students to pursue a postgraduate degree by research. The Scheme supports basic research in the broad areas of Science, Engineering and Technology. The call for applications opens on June 9th 2009 for students and researchers hoping to begin postgraduate research in the Republic of Ireland in October 2009. While a majority of postgraduate Scholarships awarded by the Council are offered to European uni0n (EU) citizens or to those who are ordinarily resident within a member state of the EU, a proportion of awards are also offered to exceptional candidates who are ordinarily resident in non EU member states.

Scholarships are awarded only to those who will be full-time students and who will engage fulltime in research during the period of the award. Students awarded under the scheme must maintain their principle residence in Ireland during the term of the Scholarship and Scholarships must be held at a recognised third-level institution in Ireland.

Building on our recent success in RAE 2008 (65% World Leading/Internation ally Excellent research), the Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies invites applications for five fully-funded PhD research studentships. Applicants should be suitably qualified and motivated to undertake a full-time programme of research leading to a PhD. Although we welcome applications from across the field of media and cultural studies, we would be particularly interested in research projects that fall within one of the Centre`s general research themes:

1. Histories and Theories
2. Texts, Performances and Identities
3. Technologies and Spaces of Communication

Students will be provided with a programme of research training and excellent facilities on the University of Sunderland`s new St Peter`s Campus.

This project aims to improve understanding regarding Quality of Life issues in children requiring long-term anticoagulant therapy and in their families. Adult evidence suggests quality of life in patients requiring anticoagulant therapy improves when they actively participate in their health care management by performing requisite blood monitoring tests in their home. The usual duration of MPhil is 1.5 – 2 yrs, full time. More information can be obtained from the PDF.
