Australian Government scholarships

Endeavour Awards
For students in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions seeking to undertake academic or professional development in Australia, The Endeavour Awards provide a good opportunity. Endeavour is the Australian Government’s merit-based scholarship program. Australians can also apply for these scholarships to further themselves overseas. There are also a smaller number of scholarships available for people in Europe and North and South America. Further information can be found at the Endeavour website.

Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
Australian Young Leadership Awards help develop and nurture young leaders from the Asia Pacific. The program is designed for people who have the potential to influence social and economic policy in their own countries and across the region. The scholarships provide support for postgraduate studies in Australia and short-term fellowship opportunities in specialised research, study or professional attachments through participating Australian organisations. Further information can be found at the AusAid website.

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)
ADS gives people who have the necessary skills, knowledge and drive, opportunities to influence development in their own country. This is done by gaining tertiary qualifications at contributing Australian institutions. ADS programs aim to add to the long-term development needs of Australia’s partner countries to promote good governance, economic growth and social development. Further information can be found at the AusAid website.

Equity Scholarships
Equity scholarships provide financial assistance to people who might not normally consider or be able to afford to undertake higher education. There are two types of equity scholarships: Commonwealth Scholarships established and funded by the Australian Government, and Institution Equity Scholarships funded by individual institutions. Equity scholarships are only available for students who are an Australian citizen, or a holder of a permanent humanitarian visa, or a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen and who have applied or are studying at Flinders University, the University of Adelaide or the University of South Australia. Further information can be found at the SATAC website

Other scholarships

More scholarships are offered for overseas study by international and charitable organisations. If this is of interest, you have to apply for these in your home country, not in Australia.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities website provides a scholarships guide for Commonwealth postgraduate students offered by Governments, Rotary International, World Bank, World Health Organisation, Asian Development Bank, United Nations, Rockefeller Foundation and other organisations.
