The Burg-Laboratory at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Goettingen, Germany) is looking for Graduate Students and Postdocs in the field of biological micro-/nanoelectromechanical systems.

Exciting research opportunities are available in several areas, including
– New technologies for detection and characterization of biological nanoparticles.
– Microelectromechanical systems for light and electron microscopy.
– Microfluidic systems for in-vitro evolution and single-cell analysis.

Please see www.mpibpc.mpg.de/groups/burg for an outline of research directions of our lab. We are looking for talented, self-motivated individuals with a strong background in Engineering, Physics or Biological sciences. They should be enthusiastic about designing new instrumentation and applying quantitative methods to biological problems. Familiarity with micro-/nanofabrication is helpful but not required. The ideal start date is August 2009, but a later date is possible. PhD students and Postdocs will be awarded a Max Planck Fellowship (initially available for two years with a likely extension to three years).
