PhD fellowship in Organosilicon Electrochemistry
“Synthesis and physico-chemistry of hypervalent silicon and low-coordinated silicon (germanium) organic compounds”
Organometallic and Physical Chemistry
French MENRT fellowship with international co-tutelle
Closure date for applications 31 July 2009
The work within a 3 years PhD program aims theoretical and experimental study of the title compounds focusing on their redox chemistry. Synthetic part implies the synthesis of “heavy alkenes” – disilenes, digermenes, the compounds with the double bond M=Z (M and Z being the elements of the group IV or V: Si, Ge, As, P and N), their precursors and model compounds.
Various transient species will then be generated via homo- and heterogeneous electron transfer – cation and anion radicals, free radicals, biradicals as well as formally closed-shell species – silylenes, germylenes, silanones and silanethiones in view of their study by electrochemical and spectroscopic methods (NMR, ESR, UV-Vis etc). The experiments will be supported by theoretical modeling (HF-DFT) and computer simulation of physico-chemical properties and mechanisms.
Motivated and research-minded autonomous candidates with a taste for organometallic and physical chemistry are strongly encouraged.
