Data Center IAQ Postdoc, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA, United States
Be Part of Something Great!
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, located in Berkeley CA., has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellowship. Qualified applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in the past 2 years in environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering, building physics, or a related discipline, with relevant experience. The research focuses on laboratory and field studies to understand performance degradation of electronic equipment from exposure to outdoor air, as it relates to the use of outdoor air for cooling of equipment in data centers, and energy savings from reduction in the use of compressor cooling. Research includes analysis of physical and chemical properties of size-resolved aerosol particles, and analysis of gas phase contaminants in outdoor air that can eventually degrade the performance of electronic equipment in data centers. The research aims to develop the scientific and engineering basis for guidelines for use of outside air to cool data centers, including basis for guidelines for filtration to remove aerosol particles and gas phase contaminants, as needed. Qualified candidate will work closely with scientists and engineers to design and execute field and laboratory experiments and tests. Prior hands-on experience is essential with standard aerosol instrumentation, indoor air quality measurements and sampling, and gas phase contaminant analysis, as well as practice with complex data analysis and some computer programming skills. Additional essential skills include experience in working in a research team environment; excellent oral and written communications; excellent interpersonal skills; initiative; the ability to collaborate effectively on teams; creative/innovative thinking.
Notes
This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based on performance and continued funding.
Successful applicant will receive an annual stipend at the rate of $63,000 (higher for additional experience), and an excellent benefit package.
