09.27Master Scholarships for Uganda Students
Equity and Merit Scholarships 2008-2009
Human Resource Management & Development by Distance Learning
The University of Manchester is pleased to invite applications for a total of six fully-funded Equity and Merit scholarships for candidates from Uganda for master’s studies in Human Resource Management & Development by distance learning. The scholarships, established on an initiative of the President of the University, cover all tuition and examining fees and course material costs.
The context of the programme
The MSc in HRM/D is a unique distance learning programme, founded on the key development-oriented tenet that human resources are the most valuable asset that a nation and its constituent organizations possesses, and that teaching, learning and research in this area can contribute directly to human and socioeconomic development. It is offered by the Management & Governance in Development Group in IDPM, the Institute for Development Policy and Management. IDPM is the UK’s largest university-based unit specializing in International Development and in 2008 is celebrating 50 years of excellence in development policy and management studies. It now forms part of the prestigious School of Environment and Development in the University’s Humanities Faculty. The University of Manchester itself is the UK’s largest and most popular university and has a worldwide reputation for research, teaching and innovation.
Students who study the programme
The MSc programme in Human Resource Management and Development is available through distance learning so that human resource practitioners can study while continuing to work in their ongoing development related professional roles, in their home countries in the public, the private and the third sectors, or in roles in United Nations agencies or international nongovernmental organizations. We assume that most students work part-time on this programme and can complete it within 3-5 years, although some students are able to take a career break to study fulltime, and in this way shorten their study period.
Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship
The scholarships are intended to support students from Uganda who would not otherwise be able to study for a UK qualification. Applicants should:
- be a national and resident of Uganda
- have at least two years’ work experience in Uganda in a relevant human resource focussed post
- have a clear idea of how studying the MSc HRM/D will benefit their country
- hold a first class or 2.1 undergraduate degree classification
- have a regular access to a PC and the internet, a valid and a regularly used e-mail address, and experience in using word-processing software
- be under 45 years of age at the time of application
Deadline for applications
The deadline for applications to be submitted is Monday 17th November 9.00 GMT.
If you are successful you will be notified by the end of December 2008 and start the programme in January 2009.
